Malachi is 6 months old

October 23, 2008

In the first picture, you can see Malachi’s two teeth if you look closely.  He has an appointment tomorrow so I’ll let you know how big he is.  I’m guessing around 20 pounds.  He’s eating baby food at every meal now and taking better naps for me.  Bedtime is okay.  He still wakes up a lot and has some sort of stomach issue, but I’m feeling better about life with three kids.

We have begun the serious potty training of Glory.  I know no magic solutions; so what we are doing involves lots of laundry and a few M&Ms.  I’ll let you know how it turns out.  So far, no real progress.

One thing I’m really liking right now is my homemade, washable wet wipes.  I bought thin/cheap dish towels and cut them in sixths.  Each sixth is folded in half and stacked in a container like this.

My container is deeper and the perfect size for about 20 of my towel wipes.  Then I take 2 cups of water and add a tablespoon or two of baby lotion (I like the smell) and baby body wash.  I have a diaper pail already for my cloth diapers so the wipes just get thrown in there and washed with the diapers.  I love it!  The wipes are so much more effective than store bought wipes.  Anyway, if you already do cloth diapers, I totally advocate for the cloth wipes.

Glory-ism

October 17, 2008

Mommy:  Glory what’s that?  (she was putting something in her pocket)

Glory:  It’s a p.t. for my bark.

Mommy:  What?

Daddy:  She was quite clear.  It’s a p.t. for her bark.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

October 12, 2008

My mom’s, Rose S., birthday is today.  I didn’t get a chance to talk to her, so…I love you, Mom!  These pictures are for her and anyone else who’s interested.

The last moments with a cast.

The yucky cast-free arm.  (She was scared stiff of the saw that they used to cut her cast off.)

The cast…we were so glad to leave it there.

Bubby got a buzz AND he’s sitting up all by himself now AND he has two teeth on the bottom.

Glory put these tights on her head because “my head’s broke.”

Kris tips on kid’s clothes

October 6, 2008

Here are some of my opinions about kid’s clothes.  I always try to get kid’s clothes second hand.  They only wear them for a few months anyway, plus they always get stained.  But, not all clothes are created equal.  Some of my favorite brands include…

- The Children’s Place:  Everything I’ve ever had from there has been worn over and over and was a favorite piece.  They’re well made and comfortable.
- Old Navy:  Always hip…not always the best quality, though.
- Carter’s (and any of the other Carter’s off shoots): Again comfortable and usually well made.
- Stride Rite (shoes only):  these are the best kid’s shoes I’ve found.  Well made and always made of leather or cotton.

And here are some brands to stay way from unless they are free or dirt cheap.

- Most things from WalMart:  almost always poorly made.
- KMart brands: anything I’ve ever gotten at KMart was quality deficient (to say it nicely).

By the way, the best way to get kid’s clothes is to accept any hand-me-downs (not that your kid actually has to where them all, though) and to find out when your local thrift store has 50% off sales and go almost ever time.
